  • Overview

    The Assistant Director holds a dynamic role, balancing time worked directly with students, staff, faculty, and alumni.  The person in this role serves as the lead coordinator for all career services on and off-campus programming.  The Assistant Director also serves as a primary resource for students and young alumni seeking career/graduate school direction and advice.  

    Responsibilities

    1. Serve as a career coach for students, meeting one-on-one and in small groups.
    2. Coordinate educational workshops, virtual panels, presentations, and discussions that serve students of all interests.
    3. Utilize alumni, parent, and friend connections to help students along the career development process.
    4.  Institute and maintain effective career proficiency tracking program.
    5. Build relationships with pre-law and pre-professional students and advisers. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of graduate school enrollment.
    6. Serve as liaison to the internship coordinator at the Kirby Center in Washington, D.C. Execute programming that ensures student preparedness for the Washington-Hillsdale Internship Program.
    7. Create and maintain career and graduate school educational resources for students and alumni.
    8. Oversee a small student team to help accomplish position goals for each semester.
    9. Assist in maintaining current information on career services webpages.
    10. Serve as department editor for all correspondence leaving the office.
    11. Oversee the transfer of relevant information into Raiser’s Edge, a campus wide database.
    12. Monitor career services general inbox.
    13. Keep organized data that can be easily exported for Board Reports and other reporting purposes.
    14. Oversee processing of department expenses.
    15. When appropriate, attend presentations by employers, graduate schools, professional schools, and other campus contacts to stay abreast of current trends.
    16. Serve as coach during the Student Leadership Workshops as needed.
    17. Contribute to social networks that promote the Career Services Office as appropriate.
    18. Stay up to date on recruiting trends and timelines.
    19. Assist in after-hour activities as needed.
    20. Perform additional duties as requested by Executive Director of Career Services.
    21. Identify unique professional development opportunities.
    22. Maintain favorable attendance and meet deadlines.
    23. Attend weekly staff meetings.
    24. Maintain confidentiality.
    25. Remain accessible and available at the College in time and presence to ensure the proper management and operations of career services.
    26. Engage in a high-degree of self-awareness.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications 
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

     

    Education and Experience 

    Bachelor’s Degree required, plus 2 to 5 years’ experience. 

     

    Other Skills 

    Knowledge of office procedures and equipment (i.e. PCs, Office 365, Outlook, Handshake, and the like) 2. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to effectively express ideas orally and in writing. 3. Ability to understand and utilize new software. 4. Knowledge of the liberal arts. 5. Knowledge of interview techniques. 6. Execute timely communication with all parties. 7. Ability to develop and maintain alumni and corporate relationships. 

     

    Personal Characteristics   

    The Career Services Office interacts with College staff, faculty, alumni, current students and business personnel.  A clean and neat appearance and a pleasant relationship that is supportive of the College mission are essential.  This relationship needs to be supportive and professional while maintaining confidentiality as needed.
